Walking and cycling @Balbinny
We are very lucky to be situated in beautiful countryside sandwiched between the Angus Glens and the coastline. St Cyrus beach is about 20mins drive from Balbinny and offers a huge stretch of very quiet beach, also nearby Lunan Bay provides another lovely stretch of golden sand (a small cafe as well). Turn northwards to the Glens and there are 10 Munro’s (mountains over 3000 feet) that can be explored. A little nearer Balbinny has walks along the river South Esk, round Balgavies Loch (home to a group of Ospreys) and a complete footpath network through Aberlemno.
(Click on route titles below to open pdf.)
A short walk (or run) from the
heart of Balbinny, along the footpath
network passing the Pictish Standing
stones, then along the Lemno burn.
Keep your eyes peeled for Ducks,
Pheasants, Partridge and Deer on this
country walk along the footpaths and
returning on the country back roads.

A pleasant stroll along quiet roads
and footpaths, this walk includes
Pictish Stones, the Church and the
Lemno burn.
An easy walk for young and not so
young.

Great to walk, run or cycle.
Offering a different view of Aberlemno
this circular route passes the banks of
the river South Esk – detour along the
river bank for a short way if you like
and then onto the Netherton and the
Davidson Legacy Cottage (return
from here by same route shortens the
distance to 7.8Km) where the
grandparents of Mr. Davidson of
Harley Davidson were born.
Then up past Melgund Castle and
back to Aberlemno Church and the
Pictish Standing stones.
A walk of @ 12k with some steeper
climbs but all on country roads.

A haven for birds and red squirrels
Balgavies loch is 3 miles from
Balbinny but well worth the drive.
An easy and sheltered walk round
the edge of the Loch, along the old
railway line and past the station.
Balgavies has a wide variety of
birdlife including breeding Ospreys.
